Make the Most of Your Travel with American Express Platinum
One thing that my husband Jose and I share is a love of travel. We both love to experience new cities and gain new perspectives that we wouldn't otherwise get staying in our city. At the beginning of our relationship, (over 10 years ago) we would book weekend getaways to cities like Chicago, Montreal, New York, and go on all-inclusive resort style trips in the Caribbean in the winter to relax and recharge. At the time, we were pretty much beginner travellers and hadn't yet figured out how to make the most of our experiences abroad.
Since becoming an American Express Platinum Cardmember, I've learned to take advantage and enjoy all of the benefits that come along with this amazing Card. Beyond elevating our trips with hotel upgrades, I’ve put together a list of my favourite services to help you make the most of your travel every step of the way.
Planning Stage
Making decisions on where to go and where to stay based on your preferences and needs is probably the most important step. I use the Platinum Concierge Service as a resource to help with reservations at a recommended restaurant, tickets to a sought-after events or the perfect gift for a discerning friend. For example, Jose & I always look for hotels and resorts that cater to couples with a healthy lifestyle. Having access to an awesome gym + fitness classes and healthy food is really important to us and can really make or break our trip.
Surviving the Airport
Flying out of Toronto's Pearson Airport can be a stressful event and can spark silly arguments between even the most loving couples, especially during peak travel seasons. We've had some really close calls when it comes to almost missing our flights, despite arriving early. Whether it's delays at the Park & Fly or never-ending lines at security, it's really hard to predict how your airport experience will go.
Now that I'm an American Express Platinum Cardmember, I have access to Amex's complimentary valet service when parking at the Express Park or Daily Park - so no more waiting outside in the cold for the Park & Fly bus to pick us up and take us to our terminal. This next benefit is probably my favourite and most used: access to the Pearson Priority Security Lane during peak operating times! I swear not having to wait in the regular security line has saved us so much time, which we can spend in the Premium Plaza Lounge. There's something about the airport that makes me extra hungry and thirsty so having access to the delicious refreshments in the lounge is a great way for Jose & I to enter vacay mode.
Once You're There
Travel days can be long and often leave us feeling tired and hungry (we seem to always be hungry or maybe it's just me) so we always make it a point to check into our hotel, unpack + relax for a bit before heading out to dinner. There's been trips in the past where we've forgotten to make a dinner reservation for the first night and let me tell you, it’s never ideal after a long day of travelling to start researching restaurants. As an American Express Platinum Cardmember, I now prearrange restaurant reservations with Platinum Concierge and The Global Dining Collection to secure reservations.
Knowing that American Express has our back while at home and travelling abroad prevents a lot of stress when things go wrong as they sometimes do. It's nice to know that all we have to do is make one phone call.
