Wearing: Le Mini Lace Up | Silk Bodysuit | Flowing Trench | Peep-Toe Sock Boot | Crossbody Bag
The last time I wore a denim skirt was around the same time I started shaving my legs. Back then, I loved denim skirts because they looked so cool on the cast of Full House and still allowed me to run around outside and play with the kids in my neighborhood.
I remember always feeling insecure & anxious about my outfits and the way my legs looked in skirts when in fact there was absolutely nothing wrong with my body. I wonder now, if it’s normal to feel this way so young?
As someone who’s been enthralled and almost hypnotized by the fashion industry from a very early age, I start to wonder if there’s a correlation between my insecurity and the messages I received from the media as an adolescent?
As an adult who now creates this ‘images/advertisements’, I wish I could go back and chat with my younger self. I would let myself know that everything you see in magazines (and social media) is planned, well thought out, enhanced, manipulated and made to look real when in fact it takes a village of insanely talented and hardworking people (and big budgets!) to produce each one of those images you see in your summer issue of Teen Vogue.
When you’re 18, you’ll leave your family and the comforts of a peaceful life in your hometown to pursue your passion and potential. All those hours spent playing dress-up with 80's bridesmaid dresses that your mom had saved for you, the countless times you could be found flipping through magazines and all the hours spent in the mirror perfecting your ponytail for soccer practice will all pay off! That time that you put in will lead you on a non-traditional life path that will throw curve balls at you along the way but because you’re a determined person who believes in destiny, you’ll one day be creating those images too.
I wish I could also tell you that you will one day create those images with your amazing + handsome husband Jose, who you will meet in your early-mid twenties… So don’t worry about a thing, just love yourself, be a good human, work hard, stick to your own path and rock that denim skirt, you beauty!
