EASY TIPS FOR AT-HOME SELF CARE IN THE DEAD OF WINTER
Hi beauties,
We’ve just passed the mid-way point of the first month of 2019. I figure it’s a good time to refer back to my New Year’s Resolutions and remind myself of what I need to do to stay on track.
Self-care is one of the resolutions I’ve committed to in 2019 as it’s something I have a history of neglecting. When I have made this a priority for short stints in the past, I’ve totally seen the benefits so this year I want to make it an integral part of my lifestyle.
Here’s 5 easy at-home acts of self care we can all try this month.
1 // Make yourself a Tea. Taking the time to make tea can feel like a private ritual if you approach it in the right way. Make sure your mugs, kettle, and tea spark joy. Over the Christmas break Jose & I went through our kitchen and got ride of anything we didn’t love and decided to invest in a new kettle (similar style here). Pay attention as you pour the hot water and breathe deeply as you wait for it to cool down so you can smell the aroma.
2 // Take a hot shower or bath. Use products that smell good. I swear doing this can be the exact reset you need to feel good, especially before bed.
3 // Do a face mask. If you have the time, put on a robe & slippers and take a look at your skin. Is it oily, dehydrated, dull? Choose a mask you love, apply and refer back to tip #2. If I can recommend one mask that I love, it would be this Kora Organics Mask. It will brighten your skin and mood.
4 // Cook a hearty meal at home. Jose & I bought ourselves a Staub Cast Iron Pot for Christmas because we love to cook at home together and have become a bit obsessed. It’s such a beautiful piece of cookware that apparently has a 30 year guarantee and can be passed down for generations. There’s something very relaxing about slow cooking something delicious and waiting it for it to be ready on a Sunday evening.
5 // Read a book. For me reading a book feels like an act of self-care because I’m taking a break and letting my mind focus on something I enjoy. I just finished reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. I loved reading it and highly recommend it. Don’t forget to light a candle or turn on your Saje.
I don’t know why but January can be a hard month for some of us. Maybe it’s the harsh weather and lack of sunlight but I do believe if you actively make an effort to be kind to yourself it can help set the tone for the year.
